Scenarios for Kult: Divinity Lost

I've written several original scenarios for Kult: Divinity Lost, as well as adapting some scenarios written for other games to run in Kult. If you're interested in playing one of these, or would like me to run one at a convention, get in touch.

Original Scenarios

Called to Account

Four people form an unlikely friendship on the Unsolved Unlimited forum, over a shared interest in one particular crime: the murder of celebrity accountant Michael Madison and his wife Rachel in their Bel Air mansion, two months ago.

A new member posts, suggesting paying a visit to the scene of the crime, and is immediately banned for promoting illegal activity. But you all saw the post before it was deleted, and have contacted each other off the forum to arrange to meet in person.

Content warnings: torture, bereavement, potential PVP

Timing: 3-4 hours

Watch an Actual Play of this scenario

A Walk in the Park

You and your hiking group have been training hard, and you’re ready for your first challenge walk. The Moorland Mastery, organised by popular outdoor adventure and motivational speaker Lucien Burke, seems ideal. Fifty miles, and twenty-four hours to complete it. No problem. Compared to the military training exercises some of you have taken part in, this is going to be a walk in the park.

Content warnings: isolation, body horror, gore

Timing: 3-4 hours

The Farm

You've been living on the streets in London for a few weeks now. It wasn't so bad in the summer, but autumn is coming and the weather is getting worse and you're getting desperate. You know help tends to come with strings attached. But pretty soon it's not going to be a choice.

Content warnings: mistreatment of homeless people, suicide, religion, drugs, cults

Timing: 7-8 hours

Gated

"Community, Tranquility, Security
Find the best of every world at Rutherford Heights. Whether you're a young family, retiree, or anything in between, there's a place for you in our community. Situated in the heart of the forest, Rutherford Heights offers peace, serenity and healthy living, but with Syracuse only an hour's drive away, you're never too far from the bright lights of the city. Condos available now."

It's moving day, for you and the three strangers who are all moving into the same condo in Rutherford Heights. As you approach your new home, you wonder what your new neighbours are going to be like. How well you'll fit into this community. And most importantly, if this is where you'll find what you're looking for.

Content warnings: amnesia, drug addiction, suicide, mental illness

Timing: 7-8 hours

Disco Inferno

New York, Summer 1979. The days are hot, but the nights are even hotter as the clubs reverberate to the sounds of the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, and maybe very soon, you. Your group’s last single hit the top 40, and the label’s been talking about an album. You’ve got a meeting with your manager at a club tonight. Some people say Friday the 13th is unlucky, but for you it’s the night that’s going to change everything.

Content warnings: sex, drugs, mental illness, prostitution, gore.

Timing: 3-4 hours

The Heist

Never mind Ocean's Eleven. The grifter, the hitter, the hacker and the thief - that's all you need for a heist. And now your team of highly skilled professionals are gathered in a room, some of you injured, all of you buzzing on adrenaline, having just pulled off the heist of the decade.

But everyone knows heist movies happen in flashbacks. Let's find out how we got here...

A player led, improvised scenario of modern horror.

Content warnings: drug addiction, mental illness

Timing: 3-4 hours

Adapted Scenarios

Unland

Originally written for Call of Cthulhu, this scenario by Scott Doward appears in Fear's Sharp Little Needles, available from DriveThruRPG.

I created my own pre-gen characters to use when running the scenario in Kult. If you'd like to use them to run the scenario yourself, you can download them here. If you're hoping to play this, however, avoid! Major spoilers inside!

Content warnings: amnesia, alcoholism, disability, mental illness, suicide

Timing: 3-4 hours

The Murder Shack

Another Call of Cthulhu scenario by Scott Doward, this appears in The Blasphemous Tome, available from the Good Friends of Jackson Elias patreon.

Rather than create pre-gen characters, I ask players to create their own in line with the scenario's suggestions, and choose a disadvantage: addiction, obsession, depression, or something else.

Content warnings: addiction, mental illness, suicide, probable PVP

Timing: 3-4 hours
